The degree program
The Bachelor’s degree program in Business Informatics has been offered at FAU since the 2009/2010 winter semester. It is divided into the usual phases of Bachelor’s degree programs:
- Assessment phase (1st and 2nd semester)
- Bachelor phase with Bachelor of Science degree (3rd to 6th semester)
It is then possible to add a Master’s degree, for example International Information Systems (IIS):
- Master’s degree (7th to 10th semester)
The course is very suitable for those who are considering studying economics but also have a keen interest in computer science. In particular, prospective students with previous knowledge of programming will find this well-balanced mix of business studies, computer science and business informatics an exciting subject with good future prospects!
Tip: If you are considering studying IIS, you should know that you will need proof of your English language skills, as the lectures are mostly in English. This proof is e.g. the TOEFL test (approx. 170 €) or the UniCertIII exam which you can take at the WiSo Language Center (unfortunately no longer free of charge). For the UniCert exam, however, you must have previously attended 10 ECTS of preparatory English courses at the university. It is therefore advisable to use the 10 freely selectable ECTS in the 5th or 6th semester of the Bachelor of Business Informatics for English courses.
Gain experience abroad
A semester abroad is compulsory on the IIS Master’s degree course, but you also have the opportunity to go abroad during your Bachelor’s degree. If you can organize it between the tight exam schedule, a semester abroad is a great experience and also looks good on your CV.

If you have already informed yourself but are unsure how you can fit a semester abroad into your studies, for example, it is best to talk to your course advisor Bastian Brechtelsbauer.
